After Surgery

3:45 am – Dr. Michael Rollins came out to let us know she did well and told us a nurse would come get us when she was out of recovery. He explained to us that they had removed the appendix and cleaned out her abdomen. Because of all the contamination in her, it will take some time for them to heal and start working normal again. Since her stomach was disturbed by this whole thing as well, she can't have any food or drink for a couple of days.

4:30 am – We got to come see her and they took us to her room (3068). She woke up while they were putting her in her bed. She was NOT happy with all the tubes, especially the one in her nose. They had to put things on her arms to make it so she couldn’t bend them which prevented her from pulling it out. And she hated the sensor rapped around her toe to monitor her oxygen.

We had taken the kids to our house and put them to bed there. Klay left the hospital around 5:30 am to go home and get the kids ready for school. I stayed with Kylee at the hospital.

A little before noon, they took the tube from her nose and the catheter out. This was nice because she couldn't stand the tube in her nose. She picked at it several times when she first woke up, but was really good at leaving it alone once we'd told her she couldn't pull it. She's being such a good sport.

Grandma, Grandpa, Lindsay, Brady, and Dawson came to visit today. They brought Kylee some toys and balloons.

When Kami got out of school, Klay brought her in to the hospital. Our neighbor, Patty, picked Kortney and Kally up from school and kept them at her house until I came home. I got cleaned up and brought them back in with me. Kylee was awake, so we took her for a wagon ride to the play room.

I don't think Kylee had much fun there, but the others did!

Kylee was so thirty and hunger having eaten last on Sunday. But doctors orders were no food or drink, not even ice chips. She asked us for a drink or said she was hungry every five minutes today. At first I would try to explain why she couldn't have them, but after the 50th time, I just started ignoring her asking and would change the subject.
Kylee hadn’t gone to the bathroom all day, so they decided they had to put a catheter back in. This was really hard on her. It hurt her pretty bad. She kept screaming, “It hurts my butt, it hurts my butt.” And since I had been asking her all day if she had to go potty, as she cried, she’d say, “I have to go potty now, I do.” It was so sad. I felt so bad. Then they couldn’t even get the catheter to go in right, so they had to do it twice. It was awful.
Then, in the night, the catheter had leaked (something to do with the balloon not being pulled down far enough), so we had to change all of her clothes and bedding. It was hard because she is still in so much pain to even move.
