PICC Line

When I leaned over to check on Kylee this morning, her bed was wet again! This time one of the tubes had disconnected. We had to change everything again. It is so hard to watch her go through all this pain.
Later, they came in to place a PICC line in her arm. This is an IV where the tube is placed in one of her arm veins and goes clear up close to her heart. This way when they give her the antibiotics she needs, they are inserted directly to her heart and pumped through her body quicker. She had so much contamination from the appendix bursting that this will help prevent infections.

The lady came in to do the PICC line and explained that it would be best for me to leave while they did it. They would sedate her with medication which wouldn’t put her to sleep, but she would be very drowsy and wouldn’t remember any of it. The procedure was supposed to last about 30 min once they got started.

So, I left and got me some breakfast down the hall. I came back about 45 min later and I could hear Kylee screaming in the room. It was very upsetting, so I went down to the waiting room to wait. They ended up taking about 2 hours. When I ask the nurse if she knew what was taking so long, she went in to find out that her original IV had gone bad. It wasn’t working to give her the meds to sedate her correctly. They had to place a new regular IV, which held them up. That’s all they told me, so I don’t know if that was it, but I could even hear her screaming from the waiting room the whole time. It was making me so sad, I wanted to cry.

When they were finally done, I went in to her. She settled down pretty quickly just having me in there with her.

Before they could start using the PICC Line, they had to take an x-ray to make sure it was placed in the correct location. The nursed pushed me in a wheel chair as I held Kylee. As we were leaving the room, Kylee started freaking out that we were leaving her things in the room. For some reason she thought we were going home and were not bringing her stuff. I had to explain to her that we would be right back and that we were not going home yet.

In the x-ray room, we had to have her sit up on the machine. It still causes quite a bit of pain for her to even move, so getting her to sit up straight wasn’t easy. We explained they were just taking a picture of her tummy and pointed to the camera. Trying not to cry, she smiled and held a “cheese” as long as she could. She is being such a good sport. It was cute.

Dad and the kids came to visit again today. So did Angela, Justin, and Logan. Justin was so excited to give her the balloons and little bear they brought. Logan was extremely concerned and just stared at the nurse while she was checking Kylee's blood pressure. He thought it was fun to ride in the wagon with her though.

Yaya, Jojo, Grandpa Great, Kendra, Mikah, and their families sent some beautiful flowers. She loved that they were purple and yellow.

We gave her a little make up kit. She loved it. We put make up on her, she put it on us, and she painted our nails several times through out the week. She called the tin case with the make up in it her purse and wanted it right by her in bed. She even wanted to paint daddy's nails, but he said "no". Party pooper!
