Our Week at a Glance

Tuesday - Kally went to school, but came home crying in pain. She had hopped around class all day doing her work just as she was supposed to, but was too shy to tell her teacher that it was hurting her foot. Once we got her some pain meds, she did alot better that night.

Kami stayed home today since she was sick yesterday, but felt ok and probably could have went to school. Better safe than sorry though.

Kortney had a dentist appointment to get a baby tooth pulled where the filling had fallin out. They also filled three other cavities. Needless to say, she came home swollen and NOT happy.

Kylee had a field trip to the petstore.

Wednesday - Went to the Zoo. Kally had her splint on so we pulled her around in the wagon the whole time. She seemed to do OK but still wouldn't put any weight at all on her foot. We were afraid her foot had and infection or something and wanted to rule that out. I had made an appointment at the pediatrician in West Valley since we were already in SLC. Our regular peditrician wasn't there, and I was NOT impressed with the one we ended up seeing. I told him my concern about the infection but didn't act like it was a big deal. He looked at Kally's foot for 30 seconds, make some rude comments, and told us to wait it out. So, we went home.

That night I could tell she was still in a lot of pain.

Thursday - Kally stayed home from school again. She was ok in the morning once she had some pain meds, but early afternoon when they wore off. She was crying terribly that she was in sooo much pain. She started saying her feet, arms, hands, cheeks, and tongue were numb, but her foot was killing her. Her hands and fingers curled up in a ball and she couldn't straighen them out. It really freaked me out.

I was babysitting a neighbor girl and Klay was at the store (I had no car keys with me). So I had to make arrangements with WONDERFUL neighbors to help with the kids and had Klay hurry home so we could take her to the ER. She cried the whole way there and even asked why the doctor couldn't come to our house. I called my mom on the way and she told me that the symptoms Kally was having was because she was hyperventilating. My mom was right. Once we got her to the hospital and got her calmed down she was back to only her foot hurting. It was sure scary though.

The Tooele ER took more xrays and gave her an IV to take blood tests. Her xrays were ok, but her white blood cell count was high. They talked to doctors up at Primary Childrens Medical Center and determined we should go up there for further evaluation, possibly surgery if there is infection in her joint.

While all this was happening, I was supposed to be having a Pampered Chef show at my house who several people had RSVP'ed to. One of my neighbors just signed up to be a consultant and this was her first show. So, while Klay stayed with Kally at the ER, I went home to get ready for that, assuming they would be home before long. I figured it would take longer to call all the guests and cancel the show than just have them show up. I probably should have cancelled it with all that went on, but Kristina who taught the show did a great job with me frantically running around getting ready to head into the hospital. Talk about baptism by fire!

PCMC ER - Kally starting a count of how many doctors and nurses she had to tell the same story to. I think she finally lost count and decided it was a hopeless cause.
They determined that it must be some kind of infection but couldn't tell for sure how bad it was without an MRI. They drew on her foot around the red area's so they could watch to see it the redness got bigger or smaller.

So, around 3 am they got us admitted into a room. Apparently the hospital is very full so we are in a room in the Outpatient unit (RTU). Kally went to sleep and rested pretty well once we were there. Klay hogged the couch bed that we slept on, but he hogs the bed every night, so I'm used to it.
